AVINENT distributes the 3D NextDent 5100 printer, which allows clinics and laboratories to manufacture biocompatible products in record time

It is now possible to scan, design and also print in 3D products made using biocompatible materials in the same clinic or laboratory, and in record time, all thanks to a new NextDent 5100 printer by 3D Systems distributed by AVINENT.

The NextDent 5100 offers high-speed 3D printing for dental products made using materials that have been medically approved for oral use on a provisional basis such as cutting guides, dentures, splints, crowns and bridges, as well as impression trays or moulds (dental/prosthesis).

Figure 4 Technology

The new printer combines the highest speed and performance of its class, at a reasonable price for laboratories and clinics. It should be noted that the NextDent 5100 by 3D Systems uses additive manufacturing technology called Figure 4, derived from the Continuous Digital Light Processing (CDLP), whereby a light projector continuously solidifies the resin layer by layer. This is precisely the element that allows greater velocity and why it stands out from Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology, which solidifies the resin in a laborious process where it is necessary for the resin tray to rise and fall, something that is not necessary with the NextDent 5100, as this performs continuous printing.

Complete Technical Support

AVINENT is the distributor of this equipment and, as always, offers a complete pre-and after sales service. Firstly, it can provide not only the 3D printer, but also provide clinics and laboratories that wish to initiate themselves in digital workflow all the necessary equipment and services such as scanners, software to be able to create designs or milling machines. Secondly, AVINENT distributes the printer, installs it at the clinic or laboratory and accompanies the professional during its set up, providing all the technical support necessary for any subsequent possible queries or problems that may arise as well as in-house training if of interest.

The NextDent 5100 printer, designed for in-house use, stands out from other devices of its kind due to its speed and wide range of possibilities with regard to biocompatible materials and CE certificates. Firstly, it is capable of high-speed printing (for example, a dental model with two removable sections has an approximate printing time of 30 minutes). This is all due to the Figure 4 technology mentioned earlier, which functions thanks to the special characteristics of the resin tray of this new device. This resin tray includes a permeable membrane which lets the oxygen pass through thus preventing the resin from adhering to the tray when it solidifies. Therefore it is not necessary to raise the piece being created in order to detach it from the tray.

With a portfolio of 30 unique materials, NextDent is the supplier with the most options available for dental applications. These materials come in a variety of aesthetic colours so that they can be adapted to patients’ teeth and gums. All NextDent materials are biocompatible and CE certified, listed by the FDA and classified in accordance with the international regulations on medical devices.

Featured elements

The NextDent 5100 printer comes with a touch screen or display and a QR code reader. The display is easy, accessible and intuitive and allows the professional to communicate with the printer. The jobs are previously prepared using the 3D Sprint software on a separate computer, supplied by the customer. The QR code reader allows the machine to read bottles of resin that have a specific QR code. The code reader avoids errors and is used to check that the material to be used is compatible with the job that is about to be printed.

Furthermore, the NextDent 5100 comes with two printing platforms which allow time savings and further increases the work rate if it is necessary to do to consecutive prints (without having to wash the platform between the first and second). The printing platform is the surface that rises as the light projector photopolymerises the resin and where the jobs are adhered.

When purchasing the NextDent printer it is possible to acquire an optional pedestal that is ideal for stabilising and transporting the printer. This pedestal also functions as a storage space, which is ideal for storing the bottles of NextDent resin, as well as the accessories or second resin trays (depending on the type of jobs it is advisable to have at least two resin trays, one for translucent resins and another for opaque).

The NextDent 5100 3D printer is compatible with a large variety of software and intra-oral scanners on the market, with which it is able to offer precise results. It can be combined with other 3D Systems components to create a complete workflow. This includes the NextDent LC-3DMixer, ideal for an optimum stirring of materials, and the NextDent LC-3DPrint Box, designed for UV post-curing.
